Inspired by the ethereal nature of femininity, and exploring the idea that the cloth wrapping around a woman is acting only as a frame to beauty, rather than to create it. Herpo is made from handwoven organza and French lace, made from thought, trials and a series of modified techniques developed by our family of artisans in West Bengal to allow for organza that drapes upon the body, instead of standing upon it.
The concept and colours of Herpo are reminiscent of the waves of the sea creeping upon the fading shoreline within Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, with the lace acting as water, and the lace texture bringing to mind the soft bubbling of sea foam. Óasi explores colours, and the ideas of unexpected combinations, all taken from either the most recollectable portrait of the Birth of Venus, or other depictions of the mythical event.
