Handwoven in cotton, by our family of weavers in the town of Yeola, in Maharashtra. Completed with a contrasting silk tissue border, featuring the traditional muniya motif.

The saree is a take on traditional the traditional Paithani handweave,  articulated through a surface of delicately appliquéd organza and satin creepers that move organically across the garment. The composition draws from botanical forms seen surrounding The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli, while also referencing the intricate floral embroideries found within the Oxburgh Hangings—textiles produced by Mary, Queen of Scots during her captivity at the English court.

Each botanical motif is constructed through layered appliqué, allowing the forms of leaves and flowers to emerge gently from the surface of the handwoven Paithani. To further contrast the supple handwoven base, the appliquéd forms are accented with meticulous hand embroidery. A compilation of french knots, shell sequins and muted metal sequins are dispersed within the leaves and blossoms, creating small points of texture and light that animate the surface without overwhelming its softness.
