Named after the Ancient Greek word for seafoam, the Aphros corset draws its inspiration from the moment of divine birth and the primary moment of judgement in Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. Entirely hand-embroidered, Aphros is encrusted with delicate pearl-work that echoes the grottoes of Florence—hometown to both Botticelli and Catherine de Medici. Each pearl is hand-sewn into place to form tidal motifs, mimicking the translucency of seafoam, turning the piece into a completely tactile canvas.
The hemline is scalloped to create a wave-like edge, in homage to the clamshell that carried Venus to shore- referencing sanctity, and offering up a commentary on place of birth & purity. The corset features a sculpted silhouette with internal boning for support and a contoured fit, with a lace-up back, similar to how corsets were fitted into the body centuries ago. Aphros is both armor and offering—a tribute to the enduring lineage of femininity shaped by beauty, power and tenderness.
