Apsis draws its name from the Ancient Greek shield. In our interpretation, Apsis collects droplets, fusing them into the form of a fluid protection. If water is the element of purification, Apsis turns that purification into a display of a ceaseless rite, removing all chance and occasion for impurity - almost forcefully and without choice. Much like the female body needing to profusely apologise for its very existence. Apsis takes from the positioning of Venus within Botticelli's Birth of Venus - poised precariously upon a clamshell and surrounded by waves standing guard, almost as if to be ready to jump at the slightest perception of inherent & sin or imperfection.
Cut entirely on the bias, Apsis moves like liquid—billowing, ephemeral, almost wind-borne, gathering around the body like a tide returning to shore, cloaking the wearer in an illusion of sanctity. Apsis cascades from mid-hip into a floor-length cape, its sides drifting earthward like streams seeking sea. Punctuating its voluminous flare, dainty pearl embroidery flows across the piece, featuring a cage-motif, and further taking on the shape of Venus’s hair from Botticelli’s Birth of Venus. The style of work is heavily inspired by the Grottos of Florence—a place imbued with symbolic resonance as the birthplace of both Botticelli and Catherine De Medici.
