Nema is a visual ode to the interconnectedness of stories, woven together with the metaphorical red string that links moments, people, and concepts across time. Drawing its name from the Ancient Greek word for "yarn," nema celebrates embroidery as a tool of storytelling. The hand-embroidered motifs that traverse the dress evoke the red string of fate, as though tracing the narrative threads of a crime board, mapping connections, themes, and motives in a tapestry of intention.
The embroidery intensifies towards the hem, bold and intricate, grounding the dress in a sense of purpose and depth. These lower motifs reflect the concept of the pearl, of rarity, beauty, and transformation born out of friction. In contrast, the upper portion of the dress adopts a more delicate approach, with shell-like embroidery framing the bust. These dainty structures play on the duality of the female form as both a vessel of creation of life and a symbol of sin. The subtle interplay between bold and delicate stitching mirrors the complexity of life itself: raw, imperfect, and beautifully nuanced.
