Rakas, to bind (ancient greek)
The Basra Tapestry, for the fuss free. Made out of striped, handwoven silk organza, for the likeness it has to cage-like structures. The beauty of Rakas exists within its lightness, almost likened to the softness of air. Rakas has a flared sleeve panel inspired by the dresses in the Tudor courts, in which Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth the 1st spent their lives surrounded by. The pleated texture of this panel is further influenced by the pleat-like shape of the clamshell within Botticelli’s Birth of Venus - discreet and yet all-encompassing.
