The Ersa Trousers draw their conceptual foundation from the surface of Botticelli’s clamshell in his masterpiece, The Birth of Venus. The hems of the trousers, rendered in silk organza, abstract the shell’s radial geometry into a structured yet minimal gesture of decoration and symbolism. Each rise and dip of the surface texture is recreated using carefully placed strips of fabric that have been draped onto the top by hand. Their rigid repetition disrupts the fluidity of the textile’s weave, creating a controlled tension between softness and form - intended to make the wearer look like they’re standing in Botticelli’s ocean, or a puddle of water at the very least.
The Ersa trousers maintain the collection’s fidelity to traditional textile practices while engaging in a conceptual inquiry into visual coding—what happens when the language of purity is embedded into structure, rather than iconography?
