Konche Skirt Set

₹177,000.00Price

Konche, meaning shell in Ancient Greek, quite literally takes from the clam shell in Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, with its fishtail silhouette being made to look like the wearer is standing within the shell themselves. Konche is made of 26 panels, with each one wrapping around the waist and hips and then unfurling at the knee, with the help of strategically placed godets. Individual godets are intricately hand-embroidered with zardosi in the shape of a broken mesh cage, and highlighted with shading using pearl and glass beads. Each embroidery placement has been carefully thought-out to recreate the curvature and depth that presents itself within each wave of the clamshell. To finish, a combination of embroidered chiffon panels have been attached to one side of the skirt by hand, adding an element of airyness to the piece.

The top is the Kuma bustier, which is defined with intricate mosaic embroidery, shaped in an eclectic wave pattern, creating a scalloped neckline that extends towards the hem, at the center of the piece. This embroidery, inspired by Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, captures the ephemeral fluidity of Venus’s flowing hair, recreating the nuanced interplay of light and shadow that graces a sunlit lock. The base of Kuma is entirely pleated, reminiscent of the texture of a shell, further drawing the eye to a delicate juxtaposition with the fluid embroidery placed atop the linear pleating - much akin to the disruption of waves washing upon the clamshell, or the shore. Kuma is a fully structured bustier, with boning, and padding for support.

The final piece to the set is the the Chrysos Coat, which draws its essence from the profound notion of solace, of embrace—a refuge of warmth, tenderness, and empathy. The name "Chrysos," meaning cocoon in Ancient Greek, speaks to this nurturing essence, encapsulating the transformative sanctuary one feels within its folds. The surface of the Chrysos Coat is adorned with intricate hand embroidery, embodying the meticulous artistry of its creation. Pearls, emblematic of purity and resilience, are scattered across the fabric in a deliberate gradation—an ephemeral drizzle that grows increasingly concentrated toward the hems and edges. This motif, reminiscent of a natural cycle of dispersion and culmination, underscores the philosophical themes of the piece: transformation, grounding, and the inexorable flow of change.
