Klados, meaning branch in Ancient Greek, begins its story as one of the botanical shapes within Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, and evolving to become the interpreted tendrils that climb upon our dress in delicate arches. As the highlight of the piece, the details are delicately hand-embroidered with velvet ropes, and glass beads to add to the delicate surface as visual weight for the Klados dress, aiming to depict the rootedness of beauty and virtue as transient and ever-present.
Klados skims across the body, defining the idea of its shape, and yet not conforming to the entire task. The silhouette is clean and columnar, allowing the embroidery to act as both motif and message. With a neckline that hugs the neck itself, and armholes that stretch ut till the dip of the shoulder, Arunda could be tagged as something ‘formal’, or as we’ve heard come from the lips of others, something ‘chic’.
