Derived from the Greek name for the myrtle plant, a symbol of Venus, and a symbol of love, resilience, and enduring beauty.
 
The Myrto Kaftan is crafted from raw silk and hand embroidered with glass beads. The floral motifs seen closer to the neckline are translated from the Oxburgh Hangings—embroideries created by Mary, Queen of Scots during her years of imprisonment.
 
Framing the embroidery is a cage-like lattice, a recurring motif within the collection that speaks to the ways we become trapped within narratives, expectations, and identities. The silhouette falls fluidly to the floor, with a side slit reaching the knee that can be worn open or closed, allowing the garment to shift between structure and ease.
 
Handmade through hours of beadwork and embroidery, the piece carries forward a conversation between history, memory, and the stories we inherit and inhabit.
