Tessera takes its name from the individual tiles that make up a mosaic. The sari is a deconstructed interpretation of Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, bringing together details from the painting and reimagining them across the fabric. 

Venus’s flowing auburn hair forms the basis of one border, arranged into a trellis of eclectic full moons. The second border follows the same trellis structure, but replaces the moons with portraits of the six women who inspired the collection — Venus, Helen of Troy, Anne Boleyn, Catherine de’ Medici, Elizabeth I, and Mary, Queen of Scots.

Tessera is cut in a long, fluid silhouette that falls loosely from the shoulders to the floor, allowing the fabric to gather and pool naturally around the body. At the centre front, a hand-embroidered pearl shell made from satin, pearls and glass beads gathers the fabric at the waist, drawing the loose panels into shape.
