Derived from the Greek word for change, Metaballo is an exploration of transition through form and surface. Cut in an asymmetric silhouette with a deliberate overlap, the top resists symmetry at every turn—its neckline and hem disrupt conventional frame, suggesting fluidity over fixity.
Metaballo’s muted burgundy base is pleated by hand, evoking the delicate ridges of a clamshell—a motif that recurs across the Basra tapestry as a symbol of emergence. The overlap is metallic, and left to be either buttoned, or hung loose upon the body. The shoulder features a hand-threaded cage detail: an open lattice that simulates vulnerability, a net cast across the body. One sleeve is sharply tailored, the other side left bare and draped in hand-pleated fabric, mimicking the undulating texture of shell or skin. The closure is non-linear, with a curved, biomorphic front panel that swells and recedes like a shifting tide.
