Botane,
refers to a herb, plant, pasture, or fodder
The Botane Sari is crafted on a base of fluid silk crepe and articulated through a surface of delicately appliquéd organza and satin creepers that move organically across the garment. The composition draws from botanical forms seen surrounding The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli, while also referencing the intricate floral embroideries found within the Oxburgh Hangings—textiles produced by Mary, Queen of Scots during her captivity at the English court.
Each botanical motif is constructed through layered appliqué, allowing the forms of leaves and flowers to emerge gently from the surface of the silk crepe. The soft rose-toned ground provides a muted backdrop against which the cooler blues and ivories of the creepers unfold, giving the sari a sense of depth and movement as the fabric drapes across the body.
To further contrast the supple crepe base, the appliquéd forms are accented with meticulous hand embroidery. French knots and metal sequins are dispersed within the leaves and blossoms, creating small points of texture and light that animate the surface without overwhelming its softness.
