Huphaino Maxi Skirt
Ancient Greek for “to weave.”
Woven together, like the stories of the women who’ve inspired the Basra Tapestry. Huphaino is a floor-length skirt handwoven from individual strips of georgette in the colours found in Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. Each strip is woven together to create a tapestry of colour, bringing to mind the interwoven stories of the women who inspired the Basra Tapestry.
The skirt follows the shape of the hips before flaring out towards the floor, with a subtle trail at the back. A foldover section at the waist adds another layer to the construction, allowing the woven surface to take centre stage. Like the stories that inform it, each strip becomes part of a larger whole, with its own place in a fabric shaped by many threads.
