Etesian Gown
Named after the annual winds of the Aegean, the Etesian Dress explores movement through layered construction and intricate handwork. The bodice is .entirely hand embroidered, drawing from the floral motifs of the Oxburgh Hangings made by Mary, Queen of Scots. Framing the neckline is our signature Klouvion technique, where pearls are woven together by hand into a delicate lattice inspired by the Kalasiris garments of Ancient Egypt. The pearl weaving creates the illusion of a bodice continuation while remaining almost weightless against the skin.
The skirt is built through four layers—a satin lining, a structured satin base, an organza overlay, and a hand-tucked organza layer—creating depth, texture, and volume. The final layer is draped by hand, and made to almost float around the waits and hip of the wearer, lending the dress a sense of airiness and flow.
Accompanying the dress are detachable sleeves gathered and banded into a contemporary interpretation of the bishop sleeve. Their shape references the banded silhouette of Venus's hair in Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, extending the garment's dialogue between textile history, mythology, and conversation.
