Ancient Greek for “fence,” “barrier,” or “enclosure.”

The Érkos Mini explores the ways women have been contained within narratives and structures that define how they are seen, understood, and allowed to exist. Made in cotton Chanderi, the fully boned silhouette creates a cage-like structure across the body, with sections of the skirt cut away to expose the boning beneath. Silk-thread embroidery follows the structure of the cage, layered with motifs inspired by Venus’ flowing hair in Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. 

Badla, French knots and zardozi highlight the embroidery, while chiffon is woven through the openings of the cage, twisting around the bodice and falling across the structure like a wash of blood, representing the pain left behind by the narratives that have sought to contain the female form. A corseted back completes the dress, reinforcing its structure while allowing the silhouette to be adjusted to the body.
