Khroa Set
Ancient Greek for “skin” or “complexion.”
The Khroa Set takes three elements from Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus: Venus’ skin, the petals around her, and the shell she steps out of. The nude tulle is shaded to resemble her skin, with the sheer fabric allowing the body to show through. On the corset, embroidered satin and plain organza petals follow the flowers in the painting as they fall down the body.
The skirt continues the shading of Venus’ skin through layers of nude tulle, while shell-inspired appliqués embroidered with pearls and glass beads reference the shell she emerges from. Together, the corset and skirt translate these elements of the painting into a soft, layered silhouette.
