The Chloris Set is a relaxed co-ord with a relaxed shirt and mildly flared trousers. The tunic features a pleated detail at the sleeve, adding volume and movement to the shape, with thread embroidery tracing botanical and wave-like motifs across the lower half. The trousers are slightly voluminous and finished with matching embroidery along the hem, creating continuity between the two pieces. 

The embroidery is inspired by the Oxburgh Hangings, a series of tapestries made during Mary, Queen of Scots’ imprisonment. Created by Mary and the women around her, the hangings feature plants, animals and symbols that carried personal and political meanings. Here, those motifs are reworked in thread and brought together with our study of the vegetation and seascape surrounding Venus in Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. The set looks at how women have used embroidery to record stories, ideas and the world around them.
