Komai Set
Ancient Greek for “tresses” or “locks of hair.”
The Komai halter top crafted from orange cotton khadi, inspired by the flowing auburn hair of Venus in Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. Hair runs through the collection as a recurring motif, exploring its relationship with femininity, modesty and the expectations placed upon women. Here, Venus’s winding locks are reimagined as a wrap that circles the neck, finished with an asymmetric lapel that adds a playful twist to the silhouette. Cut to skim the body without feeling restrictive, the Komai halter is an easy, comfortable piece that brings a little of Venus’s world into everyday wear.
The trousers feature a draped section that follows the winding fall of Venus’s hair, allowing the wearer to step into the painting herself. Across this drape sits a collage of handwoven pearl flowers and embroidered appliqué petals. Each pearl is made by hand using a technique developed in-house at Óasi, while the flowers draw from those suspended in time around Venus in Botticelli’s painting. We imagine where they might have landed had they continued their descent, gathering along the drape as though they had fallen onto Venus herself.
