Anathima Dress
Anáthima, inspired by the Greek concept of an offering.
Made with 143 pearl flowers.
Anáthima is a strapless dress made from an antique handwoven Banarasi sari woven with real silver thread. Across the dress, handwoven pearl flowers, created using a technique developed in-house, trace the path of Venus’s hair across her body in Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus. Each flower carries a small highlight in a colour drawn from the painting, bringing its details into the embroidery.
The placement of the flowers revisits the relationship between hair, modesty and womanhood, and the expectations placed upon the female form. At the hem, a gathering of pearl flowers resembles offerings laid at Venus’s feet. Throughout the collection, pearls hold a dual meaning: symbols of purity and desirability, but also reminders of tears and the stories women are made to carry.
